a)
It was the 24th of December and Henry had just finished his breakfast. At about ten o'clock he looked through the window for the first time and saw the snow. What beautiful snow! He immediately put on his overcoat and a woollen hat ('out of wool'), opened the door and ran out of the house. He found a spade in the garden hut and soon after only 25 minutes Mr Snowman stood there in the middle of the white lawn. He was tall and, at least according to Henry, handsome. His face had two coins for eyes, a small stick for the mouth and a triangular tool for the nose. Henry was not certain what that in fact was but previously it was part of the car belonging to (of) Mr Brown, Henry's neighbour, who had given it to him for that (such a) purpose. Henry was so proud of his creation.
(b)
When Henry went to bed in the evening he felt excitement because tomorrow would be Christmas Day. Soon he was asleep and dreaming about Santa Claus. Simultaneously the very (same) man was flying through the sky above the city in his sleigh. At the front were (were found) four reindeer (one even had a red nose!) and at the rear many sacks, which all contained presents for the children who during the year had been well behaved (behaved well). When Father Christmas came to Henry's home, he halted and jumped onto the roof and carefully walked upto the chimney. Believe it or not the very large old gentleman climbed to the bottom of the chimney and entered Henry's bedroom. He was still sleeping and there! - at the bottom of the bed hung a stocking for the gifts, for which Henry had been hoping- but had he been sufficiently well behaved during the year?

CHAPTER 12/ ^CAPITRO 12                                                                    Reiru al la ^capitro
a)
On Wednesday Mr and Mrs Jones said to their children (son and daughted), "Tomorrow we shall visit London, the capital city of our country." Thomas asked, "Shall we travel by train or will you drive us there in the car?". Mr Jones replied, "Probably the motorways will be chock full but traffic jams will not occur (will be lacking) on the railway. We shall travel by train, Also that way I shall not become tired!" Mary, Thomas' sister, said, "It will greatly please me to visit London for the first time."

(b)
The Jones family arrived at Paddington station - the train was bang on time (totally punctual). They travelled by tube - the underground- and quickly reached their first target - the famous Trafalgar Square with the statue of Admiral Nelson at the top of a very tall column. The column is 185 feet high. At the base are found the famous lion statues. In the square one could look at many pigeons, who very much enjoyed the food and bread crumbs, which many tourists threw to them.

(c)
The next stop was at the cathedral of Westminster Abbey. It was built for the first time during the eigth century. Many coronations and burials of the kings and queens of England took place (occurred) there. Nearby is the Houses of Parliament and the famous tower, named Big Ben. It is 315 feet high- although in fact the name is that of the biggest bell inside. The clock is well known because it appears everyday before the television news.

(d)
Now the family was rather tired and certainly they were hungry. Where to go to now? Happily the parents knew* a good restaurant on the other side of the river. They walked across the river Thames by a bridge, they walked and walked and walked (continued to walk). Beyond Lambeth Palace, the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury- the head effectively of the Anglican Church- and at long last they reached their goal. They went into the restaurant and ate an excellent but expensive feast. Mr Jones ate beef -a steak which weighed at least 2 pounds- Mrs Jones trout and the children chicken. Afterwards everyone enjoyed an ice cream.

(* Present tense in Esperanto because they knew and, supposedly, still know : Past extending into the Present)
